Westmont College

Montecito, CA

Westmont Global Leadership Center

Construction started in late 2016 and was completed in late 2017.

This project had three buildings: North and South four story Residence Halls with spacious community kitchens.
The Center building is comprised of Simmons Center (lounge), Hughes Classroom, Darling Foundation Seminar Room, Ritchie’s Place (coffee shop).
SBG furnished and installed the Curtain Walls, interior and exterior Storefronts, Bi-Folding Doors and bathroom mirrors at all dorm rooms.

Winter Hall for Science and Mathematics

A poured concrete structure, Winter Hall (LEED Gold) for Science and Mathematics is home to 44,000 sq. ft. of offices, classrooms, a 100-seat lecture hall and laboratories for mathematics and computer science, physics and psychology departments. The top level contains offices around a central atrium and lounges for individual and group study, each of which opens onto a green, landscaped roof deck. The lower two levels contain classrooms, lecture halls, laboratories and research spaces. Due to its challenging hillside location, the building employs permanent shoring with tiebacks that were left in the structure after completion. This required special attention to waterproofing of these tiebacks and their penetrations in the structural walls.

Westmont College is located in a high fire area with limited access via narrow winding roads. Campus buildings were burned in fires in 1964, 1977, and 2008, and the campus has been threatened or partially damaged by fires on multiple other occasions. [10] The campus is routinely used as a staging area for firefighters when fires threaten the Montecito area. As a condition of approval of their Master Plan, Westmont agreed to a controversial “shelter in place” plan, also called “stay and defend” procedure, in case of a wildfire. [11][12] The college has a comprehensive wildfire response plan in place. [13]
