The Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center, College of the Canyons

The Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center is located on the campus of College of the Canyons, a California community college located in Santa Clarita in northern Los Angeles County. The $18.3-million facility boasts a spectacular 7,500-square-foot proscenium stage with a state-of-the-art sound system and 886 seats, as well as the experimental Black Box Theater. Funded by the State of California ($15.9 million) and the City of Santa Clarita ($2.4 million), the 47,000-square-foot center provides instructional, community and professional entertainment and programs. Designed with a green room, scene shops, costume and property storage, orchestra pit, makeup/dressing room, lockers, showers, box office and snack bar, the Performing Arts Center is a one-of-a-kind performance destination for the Santa Clarita Valley.

The performing arts center, an integral part of the college’s plans for more than 30 years, was funded by the State of California in 1999. A partnership with the City of Santa Clarita provided an additional $2.4 million that expanded seating considerably. Spencer/Hoskins & Associates of Pasadena designed the building, ground was broken in December 2001, and the center was completed in the summer of 2004. A gala opening occurred on Oct. 15, 2004.
